Saint John Paul II at Orchard Lake

A future saint celebrated Mass in our chapel. Twice.

In 1969 and again in 1976, Cardinal Karol Wojtyła visited Orchard Lake and celebrated Mass in our chapel. In 1978, he was elected pope and took the name John Paul II. In 2014, the Catholic Church canonized him. In 2016, the chapel was dedicated as the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. John Paul II, where a first-class relic of the saint was enshrined.

The Shrine Chapel altar

The chapel was built in 1962 and dedicated to Our Lady of Orchard Lake. On June 22, 2016, Archbishop Allen Vigneron consecrated it as the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. John Paul II, with a marble and gold reliquary and a side altar. Students have Mass here every week. There is adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every day, and the Orchard Lake Schools community worships here on weekends.
