Dates, registration, and what to expect on test day at St. Mary’s Prep.

Registering for the HSPT does not submit your application.

The application is submitted through the St. Mary’s application portal. Early-decision offers are released January 21, 2027. The HSPT is a separate step: registration is completed through the external testing vendor.

Choose one Saturday.

The HSPT is used for early-decision and scholarship consideration. It is not required for regular admission. Early decisions will be released after 4 p.m. EST on January 21, 2027. The test may be taken once. Choose the date when your child will be rested.

The building is closed for safety and security.

The 11:00 a.m. pickup applies to standard testing only. Accommodated pickup time is not confirmed; contact Admissions for that time.

What to bring

Simple, comfortable and ready.

  • Three sharpened #2 pencils
  • A water bottle and a snack
  • Casual, comfortable clothing
  • No calculators or smartwatches
  • Phones powered off and stowed

Two short breaks are provided.

Payment

Complete payment at registration or check-in.

Payment is required at registration or check-in. Online payment is preferred.

Checks should be payable to St. Mary’s Prep.

Exact cash only; no change is provided.

Test format

Five timed sections.

The test is multiple choice, using a test booklet and the answer method provided.

Total core testing time is approximately 2 hours, 23 minutes. Instructions and two short breaks extend the session.

The optional Science test is not administered.

Students should work steadily and answer every question.

Accommodations

Completed paperwork is due November 24.

Available accommodations are extended time (1.5×) and small-group testing only.

Required forms are sent when accommodation needs are noted during registration. Do not send documentation through the general inquiry form.

Space is limited. St. Mary’s applicants receive priority.

Accommodated pickup time is not confirmed. Email Admissions for the correct pickup time.
