Dates, registration, and what to expect on test day at St. Mary’s Prep.
Registration is completed through the external testing vendor. The general St. Mary’s inquiry form does not register a child for the HSPT.

The HSPT is required for early-decision consideration. Early decisions will be released after 4 p.m. EST on January 21, 2027. Students who have not taken the HSPT may still be considered for admission after the early-decision date. The test may be taken once. Choose the date when your child will be rested.

Simple, comfortable and ready.
- Three sharpened #2 pencils
- A water bottle and a snack
- Casual, comfortable clothing
- No calculators or smartwatches
- Phones powered off and stowed
Two short breaks are provided.

Complete payment at registration or check-in.
Payment is required at registration or check-in. Online payment is preferred.

Test format
Five timed sections.
The test is multiple choice, using a test booklet and the answer method provided.
Total core testing time is approximately 2 hours, 23 minutes. Instructions and two short breaks extend the session.
The optional Science test is not administered.
Students should work steadily and answer every question.

Accommodations

Available accommodations are extended time (1.5×) and small-group testing only.
Required forms are sent when accommodation needs are noted during registration. Do not send documentation through the general inquiry form.
Space is limited. St. Mary’s applicants receive priority.
